Tapestry exhibition popularizes modern art

Exhibition of Iranian tapestries started on October 19 at Niavaran House of Culture will go on till October 31, 2007.

The event will showcase artworks by 36 popular artists most of whom are women. Tapestries will be available in form of wall hangings, partitions, jewelry, shawls and table cloths.

It is usually an innovative combination of texture, graphics, handicrafts, paintings and mirror work and is more often than not, woven on a vertical loom. Interestingly, tapestries also involve works of metal, wood and glass.

Besides, with the help of nanotechnology, modern tapestries are being made by using a wide variety of materials and it is eventually used as decorative article in places like airports and hotels.
