Sri Lanka hosted the first ever exhibition of footwear and leather goods from November 24 to 26 at Sirimavo Bandaranayake Exhibition hall of the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).
The event was organized by the Export Development Board, Ministry of Industrial Development and the Footwear Associations.
Leather products, footwear, traveling bags and raw materials, machineries and other accessories were displayed at the expo. A seminar for upgrading the technical knowledge of the small industrialist was also conducted during the exhibition.
Apart from the apparel sector, the footwear and leather industry of Sri Lanka has also been contributing immensely to the economic development of the country. It is only through competition and effective policy that the Government can help encourage the growth and development of this sector.
In order to sustain the industry it becomes very significant for the country to head for exports. Not only will the sector help in earning foreign revenues but will also help creating job opportunities for the unemployed.
