200 entries submitted for Young Fashion Designers' Contest

Hong Kong's young design talent will be on display at the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers' Contest 2008, January 14, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The annual competition, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC), is an important event in helping the industry identify and develop young designers.
At the contest's second presentation yesterday, 18 finalists showed their collections before a panel of judges. Contestants are competing in three categories: Casual and Jeans Wear; Contemporary Day Wear; and Party and Evening Wear.
More than 200 entries were submitted for this, the competition's 31st edition. The judges are focusing on creativity, marketability, workmanship, fabric suitability and overall appeal.
Presiding over the high-profile judging panel is Andrew Leung, Chairman of the TDC's Garment Advisory Committee. To help raise the contest's profile internationally, the organiser has invited two fashion world stars as this year's VIP judges: Maria Luisa Trussardi, President of Finos SpA, the financial holding of the Trussardi Group; and Tsumori Chisato, the renowned Japanese fashion designer.
Ms Trussardi runs the Trussardi Group, an acclaimed Italian fashion house for almost a century. The group's emphasis is in research and development, enabling the brand to use the finest fabric in creating a variety of leather goods and fashion apparel.
Tsumori Chisato launched her own label, Tsumori Chisato, in 1990. Her style is full of girlish flair and fantasy for the adventurous adult, earning her the Grand Prize at the prestigious Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix in 2002. Ms Tsumori has presented her latest collection in Paris each year since 2003.
