The Chepauk campus of the University of Madras recently organized the 'Patronize Handloom' exhibition. The event was inaugurated by S Ramachandran, Vice Chancellor of the institute and was attended by M P Nirmala, Co-optex Managing Director.

Based on the theme of handloom products, the expo displayed a variety of hand-made sarees from across the state. This apart, pillow covers, bed sheets, readymade shirts, denim materials and carpets also attracted a huge crowd.

Authentic information reveals that such cultural events are organized at regular intervals in schools and colleges to promote and uplift the handloom sector of the state.

Co-optex earned an all-time high sale of Rs6.8 crore during Diwali in 2007 and Rs5.4 crore during Pongal this year.

The company offered a special discount of 5 and a special rebate of 20 percent on the products bought from the exhibition.
