The three day Textile International Forum and Exhibition (TIFE) being held in Taipei, Taiwan came to an end yesterday. The fair was sponsored by the Department of Industrial Technology and organised by the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI).

The Trade fair had on display a slew of latest developments and innovations in technology. It also incorporated a series of forums and seminars. The exhibition was divided in to three main distinctive sections namely, “A New Way of Living,” “Sustainable Environment” and “Certification and Labeling”.

The centre of attraction in the fair was the cubicle of the European Chemical Agency which had REACH ((Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) as its central theme. The main purpose behind the display was to create awareness on harmful substances in textiles.

Among products on display were biocellulose costatic masks and medical dressings, manufactured from bacterial byproducts with bacterial strain selection technology. The production process to make the fabric of the mask takes as long as seven days and requires a pure culture fermentation process.

Another innovation on display was a precise filter developed with nanofibre electro-spinning process technology. The ultra thin fibres are particularly used in oil and air filtration and waste water management. Both these products have been developed by the team of TTRI.
