A textile fair, 'Tex Fair Kerala -2010' will be organised in Kannur, Kerala from January 14 of coming year, by the State Industries Department in co-operation with Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion (K-BIP).
This fair has been organized, in line with State government's efforts for promoting the textiles and garments sector, as Kannur has a rich tradition in handloom goods production and export, it has been chosen as the venue for the event, informed the department officials.
The district has been granted a status of 'Town of Export Excellence' by the Union Government as handloom products export from the district is above Rs 2.5 billion a year. There is also a centre of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Kannur.
There are more than 300,000 spindles in both, public and co-operative spinning mills in Kerala.
