The first annual Cadillac Couture: Red Carpet Gowns, a design competition sponsored by the American automaker, featured seven Fashion Design graduates of FIDM. The fashion designers were asked to create red carpet gowns inspired by Cadillac cars. Cadillac Couture was held as part of Style Week Orange County 2010 at the Irvine Spectrum Center.
FIDM Alumna Julia Nish, who is known for designing sustainable knitwear, was the winner of the competition and received a $2,000 scholarship. Her modern gown, which was inspired by the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, was made from actual Cadillac interior charcoal mesh fabric for the top and featured the Cadillac steel “Wreath” emblem on the front and back.
The gowns were judged by a panel of designers, including Project Runway star and FIDM alumnus and Instructor Nick Verreos. FIDM Admissions staff member and Bachelor Pad star Tenley Molzahn and her boyfriend Kiptyn Locke were also on the panel along with a rep from Cadillac.
