Tantavi-2005 is based on “the coloured, structure and pattern fabrics” developed with natural fibres like cotton, wool, silk, jute.

It is an exhibition showcasing a complete new range of handloom fabrics imbibing age-old traditions of classic warp-weft combinations and imparting modern qualities of convenience.

Tantavi-2005 (8th-12th December) is an exhibition of innovative handloom fabrics and apparels.

A fabric range has been created with adequate research and expertise that will enable Indian textiles to acquire a competitive edge in global markets. The exhibition also highlights inter play of warp & weft in varieties of weaves and is aimed at bringing out the inherent strengths of qualities of traditional hand woven textiles.

In pursuing the promotional activities of the handloom sector, the National Centre for Textile Design (NCTD), a nodal agency of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, in first phase, will organize Tantavi exhibitions all over the country, initially in select metro cities namely: New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai, from December, 2005 to January, 2006.

In a world of man made fibres, hand woven textiles of India remain the fabric of choice. Since ancient times, textiles in the Indian subcontinent underwent a continuous development in weaving, printing, dyeing and embroidery techniques in homes and workshops. Weaves are even today unique to different traditions across the country.
