  • The Handicrafts & Handloom Department of Kashmir has acquired state-of-the-art equipment, OFDA 4000, to boost Pashmina testing and authentication. The equipment is capable of testing over 40,000 fibres in under a minute, which will significantly reduce testing time and enhance accuracy, benefiting the Pashmina sector and artisans in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Handicrafts & Handloom (H&H) Department of Kashmir has recently acquired a state-of-the-art Optical Fiber Diameter Analyzer (OFDA) 4000 equipment, designed to enhance the testing and authentication process for pashmina and other fibres.

Capable of testing over 40,000 fibres in under a minute, the OFDA 4000 can determine fibre characteristics such as micron, length, and crimp. It is also able to test pashmina fibre, yarn, and fabric, making the testing process more efficient and accurate, said Indian media reports quoting the official statement of H&H Department of Kashmir.

OFDA 4000 is used in the textile industry to assess the quality and fineness of fibres, which is crucial for determining the value and grading of the pashmina products. It uses an optical system and image analysis software to measure fibre diameter accurately and rapidly, providing a non-destructive and reliable method for testing pashmina fibres.
