With a trend of manufacturing moving back closer to customers, firms that moved their manufacturing 10 years ago to South East Asia are now shifting part of their production back to Europe, says Rolf Köppel, segment manager, textile, of Zünd Systemtechnik in Switzerland. The trend is due to smaller batch sizes, shorter delivery times and more customisation.

Köppel also sees a shift from multi- and high-ply cutting to single ply cutting. Zünd, a family-owned business with global operations, has been specialising in developing and manufacturing digital cutting systems and modular cutting systems since 1984.

“Our single highest-performing country is the United States, and the single best region is Europe in terms of units sold,” he told Fibre2Fashion in an interview. (DS)
