Japanese output of sewing machines up in Jan-March

During the first three months of 2011, Japanese output of sewing machines – industrial and household, soared to 58,000 machines, up 11.8 percent year-on-year.

The value of these machines too surged to ¥9.094 billion, up 17.8 percent from the same quarter of the previous year.

In the same period, production of industrial sewing machines rose in value to ¥8.58 billion, up 23 percent and volume wise it increased by 29.3 percent to 46,800.

Exports of sewing machines stood at 128,000, a rise of 10.2 percent and value-wise it recorded revenues of ¥9.73 billion, an increase of 12 percent.

In all 63,000 machines were sold in the quarter, a growth of 12.7 percent and sales totaled to ¥9.57 billion, up 20.7 percent.
