Exports and imports of textile machinery and equipment from Japan increased by 9.4 percent year-on-year and 14.2 percent year-on-year, respectively, during January to December 2011, according to statistics of the Japan Textile Machinery Association (JTMA).
Textile machinery exports from Japan were worth 243.51 billion yen or about US$ 3.02 billion, while the country imported 33.31 billion yen or about US$ 412.41 million of textile machinery in 2011, JTMA said.
Exports of spinning machinery accounted for 26.86 billion yen (US$ 332.78 million), showing a rise of 12.7 percent y-o-y. While preparation machinery exports jumped by 44.4 percent y-o-y to 73.64 billion yen (US$ 911.83 million), exports of weaving machinery rose by 4.6 percent to 52.46 billion yen (US$ 649.58 million).
Dyeing and finishing machinery exports from Japan last year were valued at 7.27 billion yen (US$ 90.01 million), registering a surge of 51.8 percent y-o-y.
However, chemical fiber machinery exports declined by 16 percent y-o-y to 6.68 billion yen (US$ 82.76 million), and knitting and weaving machinery exports dipped by 7.7 percent y-o-y to 44.85 billion yen (US$ 555.31 million) in 2011.
Exports of textile components and parts, too, decreased by 15.8 percent y-o-y to 29.13 billion yen (US$ 360.65 million) during the year.
Among imports, maximum growth of 87.1 percent y-o-y was witnessed in spinning machinery. In terms of value, imports of textile components and parts amounted to 18.13 billion yen (US$ 224.49 million) last year.
