National Textile Corporation's five mills will source machinery from China in a bid to modernize their facilities, the Government announced on Tuesday.

Replying to a question raised in Lok Sabha, the Minister of State for Textiles, E V K S Elangovan clarified in a written reply, "NTC had floated tenders for purchase of five of the 22 mills identified for modernisation. The bids of China Texmatech Company were found to be lowest for speed frame and ring frames. Therefore NTC has decided to purchase these machinery from Chinese company."

The NTC mills lined up for modernisation are Coimbatore Murugan Mills in Tamil Nadu, Algappa Textile Mills in Kerala, Burhanpur Tapti Mills and New Bhopal Textile Mills in Madhya Pradesh.

"No machinery has been imported from China by NTC till date," the Minister informed.
