Government seems to have been impressed by the handloom machines in Indian production units.
Textile Development Minister, Jayatissa Ranaweera, recently examined Indian models of machinery and ordered several of them for the handloom-training centers in Sri Lanka.
Ministry hopes to increase production and quality by introducing these models.
“If they come forward to face this challenge, Ministry of Textile Development would assist local technicians to manufacture technically modified looms,” Ranaweera said.
While Ministry is helping Meemure to expand its markets, girls are being trained in textile manufacturing so as to reach the rural classes.
