According to customs statistics, during January to October this year, China's exports of industrial sewing machines including non-automatic and automatic, reached over two million units, worth US $390 million, representing an increase of 14 percent and 41.2 percent, respectively, over the same period 2006.
Of these, exports in general trade were 1.525 million units, up 18.1 percent, accounting for 73.8 percent of the total exports; in processing trade were 5,10,000 units, an increase of 6.6 percent.
Main export destinations were ASEAN countries, Hong Kong and India. Exports to the three markets together were 671,000 units, accounting for 32.5 percent of the total exports over the same time.
Of these, exports to ASEAN were 374,000 units, a rise of 5.2 percent, accounting for 18.1 percent of the total exports. To Hong Kong were 1,50,000 units, boosting 18.8 percent and to India were 147,000 units, recording a growth of 2.2 times.
In these ten months exports of automatic industrial sewing machines showed a rapid growth, with around 960,000 units, mounting 59.7 percent; where as shipments of non-automatic sewing machines reached 1.105 million units, down 8.7 percent, accounting for 53.5 percent of the total exports.
