Textile Technology Centers across the world helps develop the country's textile industry by catering technological assistance and expertise on various related projects and production processes. It, therefore, becomes imperative for the respective nations to recognize and acknowledge these institutes as vital for the survival of the textile sector.

Recently, a US based Wellman Inc donated a textile processing and testing equipment to The Textile Technology Center at Gaston College.

The equipment would help the center in testing fibres and resin and further its objective of becoming a center of Excellence for the textile industry. Most importantly, Wellman Inc saved the center from investing a huge sum of over three million dollars in the equipment.

Surprisingly, the Technology Center has been serving more than 200 textile firms across the country including Wellman Inc. It provides yarn and fabric formation services with a modern pilot yarn spinning plant to help industries bring in large scale innovation.

Besides, this Gaston technology center also furnishes widespread fiber, yarn and fabric testing and evaluation. Additionally, it performs defect analysis supported by a scanning electron microscope and a material identifier that couples FTIR technology with a large data base.

Most importantly, the technology center also discusses on issues of process improvement, product innovation and offers customized training to individual firms.

Efforts made by this Textile Technology Center was greatly appreciated by the US Department of Commerce, which recognized its contributions in assisting US textile companies capture world markets.
