‘Significant differences’ between the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom remain, as negotiations for a post-Brexit trade deal move forward, according to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who, following a call with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen last week, said progress has been made but there are still issues around the ‘level playing field’ and fishing.
Any deal should be agreed by mid-November to allow for ratification. “I think it’s there to be done, the broad outlines are pretty clear. We just need to get on and do it if we can. And I said that to Ursula Von der Leyen just yesterday. And she totally agrees with me,” Johnson was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, the UK National Audit Office has warned of ‘significant disruption’ when the Brexit transition period ends on December 31.
