Textile manufacturing companies in Albania have sent a letter to Prime Minister Edi Rama expressing concern over the COVID-19 crisis and demanding urgent measures to overcome the alarming situation created in the sector by offering direct financial support to textile companies facing financial difficulties due to the forced closure of their units.

The government should also cover at least half of the rent value for March, April and May, the statement said, adding that full coverage of the value of social and health contributions on salaries for March, April and May is also a necessity, according to Albanian media reports.
The chambers requested financial support for Albanian exporters and re-exporters after the end of the health emergency and direct funding for textile manufacturing companies to cope with possible bankruptcy. They also demanded permission to restart operations.
Other demands include immediate and automatic value-added tax refund without following bureaucratic procedures and an intergovernmental mechanism for overdue payments by Italian debtors who are being financially supported by their government.
