Bangladesh attracts $21.17 bn worth investment proposals in 2 years

Bangladesh has attracted more than $21.17 billion worth of investment proposals in the last two years since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020, according to Bangladesh Bank statistics, which showed the country received $2.5 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in fiscal 2020-2021 and $2.37 billion in FDI in 2019-20.

These proposals were received by the four government-run investment promotion agencies despite multiple lockdowns due to repeated COVID-19 waves, according to Bangla media reports.

The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) recorded $14.77 billion in investment proposals since the beginning of the pandemic. The Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) attracted $5.0 billion, while the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has attracted $1.35 billion worth of investment proposals.

BIDA attracted a $7.12 billion investment in 2020, of which $4.85 billion worth of proposals came from local Bangladeshi investors while foreign investors and joint venture proposals were worth $2.26 billion.
