Bangladesh's FY22 GDP growth drops to 7.1%, per capita income $2,793

Bangladesh’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate fell to 7.1 per cent in fiscal 2021-22 (FY22) from the provisional estimate of 7.25 per cent, according to the final report of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics for the fiscal. The per capita income also decreased to $2,793, a 1.10 per cent drop from the provisional figure of $2,824, due to a rise in population and depreciation of the taka against the US dollar.

The country’s population was reported to be 171.3 million, higher than the provisional estimate of 170.79 million, according to Bangladeshi media reports.

The country’s GDP grew at 6.94 per cent in FY21, 3.45 per cent in FY20 and 7.88 per cent in FY19.

A Tk1.49 lakh crore decrease in overall consumption was observed in the final report compared to the provisional figure for FY22.
