The UK court ruled that Prime Minister Theresa May did not possess the right to use her executive power to trigger Article 50 of the EU treaty which is the formal step for beginning the process of Brexit, said UK media reports.
Post the court ruling, British government is likely to challenge the decision in the Supreme Court.
With the court’s ruling on Brexit, there was a sharp surge in the pound, which hit a three-week high against the dollar towards $1.25.
Brexit, if it becomes a reality, could depress the clothing retail sales in Britain. It could add to the woes of clothing retailers in the UK as they will find it difficult to pass on the cost increases incurred by them due to pound’s weakness. (RR)
