The industry organisation has raised its production estimate by 10.25 lakh bales. This includes an increase of 5 lakh bales in Maharashtra, 1.50 lakh bales each in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, 1 lakh bales in Karnataka, 50,000 bales in Andhra Pradesh, and 25,000 bales each in Haryana, upper Rajasthan, and lower Rajasthan.
CAI has estimated cotton production at 29.55 lakh bales in the North Zone, 186.50 lakh bales in the Central Zone, 89.50 lakh bales in the South Zone, and 5.85 lakh bales in Odisha and other states. State-wise estimates are as follows: Punjab – 1.50 lakh bales, Haryana – 8.05 lakh bales, upper Rajasthan – 10.35 lakh bales, lower Rajasthan – 9.65 lakh bales, Gujarat – 77.50 lakh bales, Maharashtra – 90 lakh bales, Madhya Pradesh – 19 lakh bales, Telangana – 49.50 lakh bales, Andhra Pradesh – 12 lakh bales, Karnataka – 24 lakh bales, Tamil Nadu – 4 lakh bales, Odisha – 3.85 lakh bales, and other states – 2 lakh bales.
According to the report, total cotton supply up to the end of June 2025 is estimated at 356.76 lakh bales. This includes market arrivals (pressings) of 296.57 lakh bales, imports of 30 lakh bales, and an opening stock of 30.19 lakh bales at the beginning of the season, as estimated by CAI.
Further, the industry body has estimated domestic cotton consumption up to the end of June 2025 at 233.50 lakh bales, while export shipments are pegged at 15.25 lakh bales. The stock at the end of June 2025 is estimated at 108.01 lakh bales, which includes 32 lakh bales held by textile mills and the remaining 76.01 lakh bales with the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), Maharashtra Federation, and others including multinational companies, traders, ginners, and exporters. Cotton that has been sold but not yet delivered is also included in this figure.
The total cotton supply for the entire 2024–25 season is now estimated at 380.59 lakh bales, up from the previous estimate of 370.34 lakh bales. This comprises an opening stock of 30.19 lakh bales, production of 311.40 lakh bales, and imports of 39 lakh bales. In comparison, imports last year were estimated at 15.20 lakh bales.
The CAI has also revised its estimate for domestic consumption upward to 308 lakh bales, from the previously estimated 305 lakh bales. Exports for the current season remain unchanged at 17 lakh bales, compared to 28.36 lakh bales in the 2023–24 season.
The closing stock at the end of the 2024–25 season, as of September 30, 2025, is projected at 55.59 lakh bales, significantly higher than the 30.19 lakh bales recorded at the end of the previous season.
