The Central government has assured releasing funds for setting up a textile park in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, according to an official release by the state government.

The assurance was given by Union textiles minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar during a meeting with the state deputy chief minister Kameng Dolo.

Gangwar advised the state government to submit a detailed project report (DPR) at the earliest. He said the state government would be informed when the textile park proposal is cleared by the ministry.

Dolo, who is also the state minister for textile and handicrafts, sought establishment of a weaver service centre in Itanagar, on the lines of Weaver Service Centres in Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, for the benefit of poor weavers. At present, the Weaver Service Centre at Guwahati provides services to the state.

The Union minister said the second instalment under North Eastern Textile Promotion Schemes would be released shortly. He also assured Dolo that the proposal for textile tourism at Poma will also be cleared.

Gangwar said he would be visiting the state next month to inaugurate the garment manufacturing unit at Pasighat in East Siang district. At that time he would announce some developmental packages for the state in the textile and handloom sector. (RKS)
