  • Manzhouli recorded a 39.9 per cent YoY surge in cargo volume, handling over 20 million tonnes from January to November 2023.
  • This significant growth was primarily driven by an increase in railway and road freight, with railway freight alone rising by 35.3 per cent.
  • The port also played a pivotal role in facilitating 4,353 China-Europe freight train trips.
Manzhouli, recognised as China's largest land port, has experienced a significant increase in cargo volume this year, as reported by the port's administrative office. Located in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the port has managed over 20 million tonnes of cargo from January to November 20, marking a 39.9 per cent increase compared to the previous year.

The breakdown of this volume reveals that railway freight accounted for the majority, with 18.73 million tonnes, showing a 35.3 per cent rise. Road freight, though smaller in volume, registered a substantial 171 per cent increase, amounting to 1.32 million tonnes, said Chinese media reports quoting Zhang Shipu, the director of the port's administration office.

In 2023 alone, the Manzhouli port has been a critical junction for 4,353 China-Europe freight train trips. These trips have facilitated the transport of 472,900 twenty-foot equivalent units, underscoring the port's growing importance in international trade.
