A cross-Caspian international freight train yesterday departed from Yinchuan in China’s Ningxia autonomous region to Anzali in Iran, crossed border from the Horgos port in Xinjiang, and will cross the Caspian Sea through Kazakhstan to reach Anzali. This train has a total of 51 standard containers with a cargo weight of about 1,400 tonnes valued at $3.06 million.

The launch of the train has opened up a new international logistics channel for Ningxia to cross the Caspian Sea into West Asian countries for the first time, which is of great significance to promoting economic and trade exchanges between Ningxia and Iran, official Chinese media reported.

The route covers 8,500 kilometres and takes about 20 days to reach Anzali, which saves about 20 days compared with traditional shipping. Compared with the original Yinchuan-Tehran International freight railway line, the new route saves 6,000 yuan per box.
