The factory has already completed processing 800 tons of cotton, according to a statement from Helmand Governor's office, Afghanistan media reported.
At the reopening ceremony, Helmand Governor Mohammad Yasin said he hoped the factory will help farmers in the province to switch from opium to cotton production.
Between the mid-1960s and the late-1980s, the ginning factory processed around 32,000 tons of cotton a year. The enterprise was closed down 11 years ago due to insufficient funds. Thereafter, it resumed operations for a brief period before it was shut again.
