  • In September 2024, the Netherlands saw a 3 per cent YoY rise in export volumes, while imports rose by 5.9 per cent, as per CBS.
  • Despite this growth, the CBS exports radar for November indicates less favourable export conditions due to declining producer confidence in the euro area and Germany.
  • Export volumes had fluctuated throughout 2024, with signs of stabilisation by September.
The volume of goods exported in the Netherlands was up by 3.0 per cent year on year (YoY) in September 2024, stated Statistics Netherlands (CBS) report. The volume of goods imported was up by 5.9 per cent in comparison to September 2023.

Due to a decline in producer confidence in Germany and the euro area, export conditions are worse than they were in September. Also, opinions of European and Dutch manufacturers about their foreign orders were more unfavourable, according to the CBS exports radar for November.

In 2024, there was a negative trend in January and February, with declines of -5.9 per cent and -6.2 per cent YoY, respectively. March showed a slight recovery to -5 per cent YoY, and by April, the decline had almost stabilised at -0.1 per cent YoY. Although May saw another dip at -3.7 per cent YoY, June showed an improvement with a smaller decline of -0.4 per cent YoY. By July, export volumes returned to growth at 2.5 per cent YoY, indicating a potential recovery, though August dipped again slightly to -0.7 per cent YoY. September saw a stronger rebound with growth at 3 per cent year-on-year, suggesting a stabilization in export volumes as 2024 progressed.
