Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, oversaw the agreements during an official visit to Djibouti.
The visit included meetings at the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority, where discussions focused on Djibouti’s demand for Egyptian expertise in port development, logistics infrastructure, road construction and renewable energy projects such as solar and wind power. Egyptian companies participating in the delegation confirmed their readiness to deliver projects in line with international standards.
Al-Wazir highlighted the strong historical ties between Egypt and Djibouti and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to implementing outcomes from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s visit to Djibouti in April 2025. He cited the inauguration of Banque Misr Djibouti in November 2025 and the launch of a solar power station in the Arta region as tangible results of that engagement.
Talks also reviewed progress under an existing memorandum of understanding between Egypt’s Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport and the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority. Projects under consideration include development of National Road RN18, renewable energy schemes, a proposed wind farm in the International Free Zone, and port expansion initiatives.
The delegations conducted site visits to the Doraleh Container Terminal, the planned location of a solar power facility inside the port, and a proposed logistics zone, local news agencies said.
Three major agreements were signed during the visit. These included a terms and conditions agreement for a new multi-purpose terminal involving an Egyptian consortium and Great Horn Investment Holding; an accord between the Holding Company, Elsewedy Group, and the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority to establish a regional logistics hub; and a deal between Elsewedy Electric and the Doraleh Container Terminal operator for the Green Port Solar Project.
The Green Port Solar Project is expected to support sustainable port operations by supplying clean, stable energy and reducing exposure to global fuel price volatility, while reinforcing Djibouti’s role as a key trade gateway in the Horn of Africa and Egypt’s growing regional footprint in infrastructure and renewable energy.
