Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly yesterday inaugurated a wide range of development and industrial projects in the Qantara West Industrial Zone, part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE).

These include units of China’s Hengsheng Textile Company and Turkiye’s Ergolu Garment.

With investments exceeding $70 million, the Hengsheng Textile factory covers 200,000 sq m and specialises in textile printing, dyeing and processing. The first phase is over, while construction of the second phase is under way. Once completed, the unit will generate 1,300 direct jobs.

Eroglu first invested in Ismailia in Egypt in 2007, followed by Damietta in 2011, and is now returning with new projects in Qantara West. The group’s investments in Egypt have grown from $150 million to $450 million, while its workforce has expanded from 2,500 to 10,000. Sales have also risen significantly, from $150 million to $350 million.

Other projects in the pipeline include Henneway (China) for luggage manufacturing, and De Sita (China) and High Tech (Thailand) for apparel. These projects, scheduled to open in phases across nest year, according to domestic media reports.

Located in Abu Khalifa, the Qantara West Industrial Zone covers an area of 19 sq km. Its strategic position connecting the Mediterranean and Red Sea ports makes it a vital hub for labour-intensive industries and logistics. The zone’s first phase was completed in July 2024.

Madbouly also inaugurated new infrastructure facilities crucial to the zone’s development. A natural gas pressure reduction station has been built under the SCZONE. It has a design capacity of 40,000 cubic metres per hour.

A second, larger station with a design capacity of 160,000 cubic metres per hour is being planned to meet future expansion needs.
