Regional trends showed mixed momentum. North Sea volumes fell as most routes recorded softer activity, while Mediterranean traffic declined due to reduced capacity following intensified ferry competition. Channel volumes dropped amid a slowdown across the wider Dover Strait corridor. Baltic Sea volumes rose above 2024 levels, contrasting with the Strait of Gibraltar, where capacity changes pushed volumes lower.
On a last-twelve-months basis, total transported freight lane metres increased 1 per cent to 41.5 million, though adjusted for route changes the figure dipped 1.5 per cent.
