Feb 2022 Euro area annual inflation 5.8%: Eurostat flash estimate

Euro area annual inflation was expected to be 5.8 per cent in February this year, up from 5.1 per cent in January, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU). Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, energy is expected to have the highest annual rate in February—31.7 per cent compared with 28.8 per cent in January.

That was followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (4.1 per cent compared with 3.5 per cent in January), non-energy industrial goods (3 per cent compared with 2.1 per cent in January) and services (2.5 per cent compared with 2.3 per cent in January).

The euro area consists of Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Finland.
