  • Kapok is gaining global attention for its sustainability and performance, thanks to Flocus' patented spinning and exclusive sorting technology.
  • Once seen as unworkable, kapok is now scalable, consistent, and OEKO-TEX certified safe.
  • With fibre qualities Clarus and Fina, plus its KRAF tree-planting initiative, Flocus positions kapok as a sustainable, ethical, high-performance fibre.
Kapok is finally entering the spotlight—long praised for its sustainability as a regenerative, pesticide-free, vegan, non-food and non-timber fibre. But to talk only about sustainability is to miss the real breakthrough.

Kapok is not just green. It is a fibre with extraordinary technical properties: naturally light and soft, highly thermo-insulating and highly thermoregulating, and with natural antibacterial properties. Its versatility opens applications far beyond fashion into the hygienic market, furniture, automotive, and packaging, etc. For decades, kapok was seen as unworkable, fragile, too buoyant, impossible to spin or use consistently at scale, and too often linked to inhumane practices.

“At Flocus, we changed that. Since 2016, we have held the patent for spinning kapok into yarns and producing nonwovens, giving us a head start on textile applications worldwide. Our proprietary kapok-sorting technology belongs exclusively to Flocus: it exists nowhere else. With it, we have not just transformed the fibre, we have transformed the whole process: from unsafe and unstable practices to a patented, industrial system that guarantees consistent quality, reliable volume, social compliance, and full ethical standards,” the company said.

While others still rely on unsafe models, Flocus has introduced the first safe harvesting standards for kapok, creating jobs and dignity where previously there was exploitation and danger. Flocus kapok is also OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Product Class 1 certified, guaranteeing safety even for baby products. As a result, partners worldwide depend on Flocus as the only scalable and ethical source of kapok.

Flocus’ fibre qualities embody innovation: Clarus, kapok fibre selected for spinning and premium yarns; and Fina, with advanced processing for nonwovens and stuffing where performance matters most.

Beyond production, Flocus drives regeneration through its KRAF initiative, planting and gifting trees to restore ecosystems and empower local communities.

With these advances, kapok is no longer the forgotten fibre of the past. Flocus positions it as the material of the future, combining sustainability, innovation, and high performance at scale.
