German employment at 45.7 million in December 2022

The results of the labour force survey showed that 1.22 million people were unemployed in December 2022. That was a decrease of 95,000, or 7.2 per cent, compared with December 2021. The unemployment rate was 2.8 per cent (December 2021: 3.0 per cent), according to a press release by Destatis.

Adjusted for seasonal and irregular effects due, for instance, to weather conditions or strike, the number of unemployed stood at 1.30 million, which was slightly less than in November 2022 (-10,900 people). The adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 2.9 per cent in December 2022 (November 2022: 3.0 per cent).
