German GDP stagnant in Q2 2023 compared to Q1, down by 0.6% YoY

Germany’s gross domestic product (GDP) did not fall in the second quarter (Q2) this year compared with Q1 after adjustment for price, seasonal and calendar variations, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

GDP in Q2 was, however, down a price-adjusted 0.6 per cent year on year. The decrease was smaller (minus 0.2 per cent) after price and calendar adjustment.

In the two previous quarters, German economic performance was down quarter on quarter by a revised minus 0.1 per cent in Q1 2023 and minus 0.4 per cent in Q4 2022.

Household final consumption expenditure stabilised in the Q2 2023 after the weak winter half-year.
