International Cotton Association (ICA) president Tim North and ICA managing director Bill Kingdon made a recent visit to Brazil to visit regional producers, ginners, and laboratories in Mato Grosso and Bahia and attend the Brazilian Cotton Exporters (ANEA) Conference. They met with many ICA members and future members.

North and Kingdon delivered a keynote presentation on the ICA and International Safe Trading. North also participated in a Women in Cotton panel session which explored how the cotton community can better promote diversity in leadership positions. In Mato Grosso, they were hosted by ICA director for Brazil Fabiana Furlan from Scheffer Group, exploring improved production techniques and ‘regenerative cotton’. In Bahia, the harvest and ginning are already underway, ICA said in a press release.

Speaking after the trip, Kingdon said; “This was the first ICA visit to Brazil since 2018. Already a major international cotton exporter, Brazil may soon be competing for the top spot. It is great to see at first hand the progress that is being made here and to meet the many innovators who are leading the cotton industry in Brazil.”
