The preparations for the 75th Plenary meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAI), which will be held in Islamabad this year, proceed smoothly, according to a committee release.

José Sette, executive director, ICAC, visited Pakistan recently to discuss arrangements with the local organising committee. He met stakeholders in the cotton value chain to exchange ideas on the programme of the event.

During his visit, Sette said, “All stakeholders that I met are extremely enthusiastic about hosting the ICAC Plenary. The organisers are taking steps to prepare a wonderful event, while ensuring the security and comfort of all. The progress so far has exceeded my expectations and I am sure that all those who attend will have an unforgettable experience.”

The venue for the event has been selected and steps are being taken to issue visas for the delegates, observers, and other participants.

A proposal for the theme and agenda of the Plenary will be presented to ICAC members in the near future.

Plenary meetings of the ICAC provide a forum for discussion of international issues of importance to the world cotton industry, and provide opportunities for industry and government leaders to consult on matters of mutual concern. The 75th edition will be held from 31 October to 4 November 2016 in Pakistan.

The 74th plenary meeting was organised by the Office of the Textiles Commissioner, Mumbai along with Cotton Corporation of India, Cotton Association of India and the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, under the theme “From Farm to Fabric: The Many Faces of Cotton” and was attended by 500 delegates from 50 countries across the world.
