India’s textile and apparel (T&A) exports followed an upward trend as the country’s merchandise exports jumped 19.37 per cent in November this year. Shipments of textiles and apparel surged 9.40 per cent, with T&A exports reaching $2.855 billion, while total merchandise exports stood at $38.130 billion in November 2025. However, T&A exports eased 0.35 per cent to $23.257 billion during the first eight months of FY26 (April–March). Overall merchandise exports rose 2.62 per cent to $292.072 billion during the period.

It is important to note that India succeeded in turning around the trend in November after a decline in trade over the preceding two months, as the country faced 50 per cent US tariffs.

India’s total T&A exports stood at $23.257 billion during April–November 2025, compared with $23.338 billion in the same period last year.

According to an analysis by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), apparel exports rose 11.27 per cent to $1,247.37 million in November 2025, up from $1,121.07 million in November 2024, while textile exports increased 7.99 per cent to $1,608.42 million from $1,489.44 million.

During April–November 2025, apparel exports inched up 2.28 per cent to $10.079 billion from $9.854 billion, while textile exports eased 2.27 per cent to $13.177 billion from $13.483 billion.

The share of T&A in India’s total merchandise exports fell to 7.96 per cent during April–November 2025, compared with 8.20 per cent in the same period last year, according to the latest trade data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Within the textiles segment, exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups, and handloom products declined 3.26 per cent to $7.610 billion in the first eight months of FY26. Exports of man-made yarn, fabrics, and made-ups eased 0.06 per cent to $3.187 billion, while carpet exports decreased 3.73 per cent to $977.42 million.

In November 2025, exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups, and handloom products increased 4.10 per cent to $907.94 million, while exports of man-made yarn, fabrics, and made-ups surged 15.72 per cent to $399.9 million. However, carpet exports declined 2.25 per cent to $119.99 million.

Imports of raw cotton and waste surged 55.98 per cent to $1,210.09 million during April–November 2025, compared with $775.8 million in the same period of the previous fiscal. Imports of textile yarn, fabrics, and made-ups rose 7.53 per cent from $1,628.08 million to $1,750.65 million.

In November 2025, imports of raw cotton and waste jumped 75.35 per cent, from $170.72 million to $299.36 million. Imports of textile yarn, fabrics, and made-ups gained 2.60 per cent to $206.97 million.

In FY25, India’s apparel exports rose 10.03 per cent to $15.989 billion, while textile exports grew 3.61 per cent to $20.617 billion. Imports of raw cotton and waste surged 103.67 per cent to $1.219 billion, and imports of textile yarn, fabrics, and made-ups increased 8.69 per cent to $2.476 billion.

In FY24, India’s T&A exports stood at $34.430 billion, marking a 3.24 per cent decline from $35.581 billion in FY23. Imports of raw cotton and waste were valued at $598.63 million in FY24, down 58.39 per cent from $1.439 billion in FY23. Imports of textile yarn, fabrics, and made-ups also fell 12.98 per cent to $2.277 billion.
