India's unemployment rate drops for 2nd consecutive month in Aug

India’s labour market showed positive momentum in August this year, with overall unemployment rate for persons aged 15 and above declining for the second consecutive month—from 5.6 per cent in June to 5.2 per cent in July and 5.1 per cent in August, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

Male unemployment rate in August was at its lowest (5 per cent) in five months.

Female worker population ratio (WPR) rose to 32 per cent in August this year from 31.6 per cent in July 2025 and 30.2 per cent in June 2025.

Overall WPR rose to 52.2 per cent in August from 52 per cent in July 2025 and 51.2 per cent in June, a release from the ministry said.

Female labour force participation rate (LFPR) rose to 33.7 per cent in August from 33.3 per cent in July and 32 per cent in June.

The overall LFPR for persons of aged 15 and above increased from 54.2 per cent in June to 55 per cent in August.
