Indian textiles ministry seeks VSF stakeholder view on BIS assessment

The ministry of textiles, Government of India, has approved a proposal for bringing Indian Standard IS 17266:2019 Textiles-Viscose Staple Fibres – Specification under Mandatory Conformity Assessment Scheme under Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016. Stakeholders of VSF can give their opinion to the Textiles Committee by October 23, 2022.

“Ministry of textiles vide its letter No. 12015/16/2022-IT dated July 29, 2022 has approved a proposal for bringing Indian Standard IS 17266:2019 Textiles-Viscose Staple Fibres – Specification under Mandatory Conformity Assessment Scheme under Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016. Accordingly, the draft Viscose Staple Fibres (Quality Control) Order, 2022 is now open for comments of stakeholders,” Textiles Committee, working under the ministry of textiles, Government of India, said in a recent circular.

The stakeholders of Viscose Staple Fibre may furnish their views/comments/suggestions to The Secretary, Textiles Committee, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India by October 23, 2022, the circular said.

The Viscose Staple Fibres (quality control) order, 2022 shall come into force on the expiry of 180 days from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. However, the order shall not apply to goods or articles meant for export, which conform to the specification required by the foreign buyer.

The Bureau of Indian Standards shall be the certifying and enforcing authority in respect of the goods. In addition, officer not below the rank of assistant director, Textiles Committee, shall also be the enforcing authority, the circular said.
