Invista's Athens site has received the STAR status and the highest designation for safety yet again under the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). The company received its first certification in 2012, and is among the only three VPP STAR sites in Athens.

Shauna Devereux, Invista Athens site manager, said on the company website, “This designation represents our employees' on-going dedication to safety. Every day, we strive for 10,000 per cent compliance, which means 100 per cent of our employees comply with safety requirements and regulations 100 per cent of the time. We're proud this hard work and diligence is recognised by the VPP STAR facility recertification.”

“Invista has been recertified as a VPP site as a result of making safety its top priority,” said William C Fulcher, area director for the US department of labor, OSHA's Atlanta-East Area Office. He further said, “This site has an injury rate 39 per cent lower than the average plant that does the same thing. As a result of strong management leadership and employee involvement, the facility continues to protect workers and provide a good place to work.”

OSHA awarded the VPP STAR recertification to the Athens site after a complete third party audit of the site's safety and health programmes, operations performance, and safety record.

The Athens site of the company processes yarn that supports flooring brands including STAINMASTER and ANTRON. (HO)
