Insights

  • Lenzing has launched TENCEL Lyocell - HV100, a new fibre featuring Variocut technology that creates natural-looking textures through controlled fibre length variation.
  • Combining sustainability, design versatility, and a matte finish, it offers new possibilities for denim, apparel, and home textiles with reduced water and carbon footprints.

The Lenzing Group, a leading global producer of regenerated cellulosic fibers for the textile and nonwovens industries, officially launches TENCEL Lyocell - HV100, a new fiber innovation developed in response to value chain partners seeking textured aesthetics inspired by natural fibers. The innovation employs Variocut technology to create deliberate variations in fiber length within the bale, producing a textured look on the final product, typically associated with natural fibers.

Crafting natural imperfections

TENCEL Lyocell - HV100 inherently has the environmental benefits and consistent quality of LENZING cellulosic fibers. Through controlled variation in staple lengths, these fibers create the subtle irregularities in the fabric that contribute to the distinctive qualities and appearance of natural fibers. Adding to the texture, the fiber’s matte finish also highlights an opaque look, offering mills and brands expanded creative possibilities for developing fabrics with natural fiber aesthetics. The fibers deliver a still soft, but less liquid hand feel for premium denim products, achieving a natural softness without any washdown shade complications or the extreme draping that could feel unnatural.

“TENCEL Lyocell - HV100 redefines what regenerated cellulosic fibers can achieve,” said Rohit Aggarwal, CEO of Lenzing Group. “It comes at a crucial time as the industry faces a widening gap between fiber demand and supply. As the textile industry adapts to meet increasing demand for natural aesthetics and more sustainable solutions, TENCEL Lyocell - HV100 provides a unique answer to both. It marks a meaningful step forward in our commitment to helping partners and customers continue to thrive in a rapidly evolving market, while addressing key environmental priorities such as resource efficiency.”

TENCEL Lyocell - HV100 demonstrates good results in denim applications where authentic texture is paramount. The fibers enable new possibilities in warp yarns – traditionally cotton-dominated – while maintaining the processing efficiency that manufacturers require.

Sustainable fiber solutions as a catalyst for design variety

“Sustainability conversations with our partners consistently return to a central question: how can we reduce environmental impact while fostering design possibilities?” noted Krishna Manda, Vice President Corporate Sustainability at Lenzing. “TENCEL Lyocell - HV100 provides one solution by combining the resource efficiency of our closed-loop production, which results in at least 50% less water consumption and carbon emissions than generic lyocell, with the aesthetic versatility our partners need to differentiate their products.”

Blending versatility unlocks broader textile applications

Beyond denim, trials in apparel and home textile applications reveal broader potential for TENCEL Lyocell - HV100. When blended with standard TENCEL Lyocell fibers or cotton, the fibers offer a range of textures and hand-feels. This versatility enables manufacturers to fine-tune texture through flexible blending ratios, allowing for applications ranging from structured chinos to soft home furnishings, each maintaining the moisture control and biodegradability characteristics inherent to TENCEL fibers.

“From a technical standpoint, TENCEL Lyocell - HV100 allows us to innovate and co-create with our mill partners in new ways,” explained Florian Heubrandner, Vice President Global Business Management Textiles at Lenzing. “The controlled variation opens up possibilities for yarns and fabrics that weren’t previously achievable with Lyocell. We’re already seeing innovative approaches from different markets that suggest significant potential for product differentiation. We look forward to working with even more partners to use these versatile fibers across a wider range of textile applications, from apparel to home.”

With TENCEL Lyocell - HV100, Lenzing continues to push the boundaries for collaborative innovation in sustainable fiber solutions, empowering value chain partners to create products that combine environmental responsibility with unparalleled design versatility. The new TENCEL Lyocell - HV100 fibers will be showcased at the Lenzing booth during Kingpins Amsterdam, October 15-16, alongside approximately 20 mill partners who will be featuring fabrics made with the new fibers at their respective booths. Attending guests will be able to explore application possibilities and benefits first-hand.
