Japan is one of the most innovative countries worldwide when it comes to usage of indigo and creation of denim. Japanese society first came into contact with denim through the American soldiers who, when leaving Japan after World War II, left some of their belongings behind (among them jeans). Many of these belongings ended up being sold in street markets, and jeans attracted the gaze of many a Japanese during this time and they love denim!

Denimsandjeans has been organising denim shows globally for many years now. Founder Sandeep Agarwal has been associated with the denim industry for over three decades. He initiated efforts to bring the denim industry together in Bangladesh, India and Vietnam by holding the first denim supply chain shows there. The latest show was recently held in Bangalore, India after 3 years of COVID break and was very enthusiastically received by the exhibitors and visitors.

Denimsandjeans Japan was also planned in March 2020 but got postponed due to COVID-19 and is now being held on November 1-2, 2022, at Tokyo. Agarwal mentions, “Our main purpose of creating a denim supply chain show in Japan was to bring a denim dedicated event to the ‘Mecca of denim – Japan’. All of us have been hugely inspired by the Japanese denim – which are an artful rendition of carefully crafted denims. And we wanted to hold the first denim supply chain show there to cater to requirements of local and international brands and retailers besides bringing something which can help the visitors to be inspired.”

The participants include some exclusive denim mills, indigo dyeing mills, laundries, garment units from Japan including Nihon Menpu, Collect, Whoval, Sanyo Senko, SAAB, Shinohara and many more. These companies will showcase alongside some of the most well-known global technology and chemical companies like Tonello, Jeanologia, VAV, Officina+39, etc. Famous fabric and garment companies from Pakistan, India, Turkey, Bangladesh, etc will form another group to showcase latest products and qualities at the show to the discerning local and global retailers and buyers.

The show shall be supplemented by denim talks by global experts in the field, and also some of the renowned connoisseurs of denim, bringing the event alive. Besides, there will be exclusive displays of products from Japan and around the world at the trend areas in the show.

The show gives an opportunity to the denim lovers from across the globe to come and get a taste of Japanese denim crafts after a long gap of almost 3 years due to COVID-19 enabling essentially to cover a large area of Japanese denim in a very short time.
