Loyal Textile Mills' CMD passes away at 63

The chairman and managing director (CMD) of Loyal Textiles Mills, Manikam Ramaswami passed away on Monday in Chennai. Ramaswami has served as the chairman of the Southern India Mills' Association, and Tamil Nadu State Council- Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He was also the vice-chairman of The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (Texprocil).

Ramaswami was also a member of the committee of administration-Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI).

Ramaswami died on his way to a private hospital in Adyar, he collapsed after being given anaesthesia for a dental procedure, according to a leading daily.

Ramaswami, aged 63, is survived by wife Valli Manikam Ramaswami and daughter Vishala Ramaswami. Manikam has served on a number of boards in the textile industry. Since 1976, he was associated with the Loyal Textile Mills, his family business. Established in 1946, Loyal Textiles Mills is one of India's leading manufacturers and exporters of fabric, yarn, garments, and fibres.

In an interview with Fibre2Fashion in February 2015, Manikam had shared his views on the steps taken by the government to boost textile exports whilst developing the domestic textile market. (RR)
