Mexico’s imports of home textiles increased by 8.90 per cent during the first five months of the current year. China and the US remained the largest and second-largest suppliers, respectively. Imports from China surged 25.04 per cent, while imports from the US declined by 6.09 per cent during the same period.

Mexico’s home textile imports stood at $608.760 million in January–May 2025, 8.90 per cent higher than the $558.722 million imported during the corresponding period last year. Inbound shipments from China rose to $314.351 million from $251.397 million in January–May 2024—a 25.04 per cent increase. In contrast, trade with the US eased 6.09 per cent to $145.499 million in the first five months of the current year, according to sourcing intelligence tool TexPro.

Imports from the US were valued at $154.929 million in the same period last year. China and the US accounted for 51.64 per cent and 23.90 per cent, respectively, of Mexico’s total home textile imports by value.

Mexico’s home textile imports from India stood at $35.508 million (5.83 per cent), from Vietnam at $11.894 million (1.95 per cent), and from Thailand at $11.116 million (1.83 per cent) so far this year. These countries ranked among the top five suppliers in this category.

Mexico’s home textile imports had jumped 156.21 per cent to $3,113.250 million in 2020, compared to $1,215.253 million in 2019. However, inbound trade witnessed consistent volatility in the following year and did not even reach half the level of 2020. The COVID year proved to be a golden period for home textile products, as homebound consumers purchased more of these items, according to TexPro.

Post-COVID, Mexico’s imports fell by 64.31 per cent to $1,111.047 million in 2021. The trade value gradually increased to $1,182.487 million in 2022, $1,310.501 million in 2023, and $1,480.070 million in 2024.
