A Chinese company is set to invest $12.25 million in Mongla Export Processing Zone (Mongla EPZ) to establish a high-end garments manufacturing facility.
The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) signed an agreement with Safety Garments Bangladesh Co Ltd yesterday, at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka. Under the investment plan, the Chinese company will manufacture various high-end garments and safety products, including Reflective Jackets, Vests, T-shirts, Fleece Jackets, Coveralls, and Safety Helmets. The initiative is expected to create 1,616 employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers.
The agreement was signed by Md Imtiaz Hossain, member (Engineering & Investment Promotion – Additional Charge) of BEPZA, and Shi Yan, managing director of Safety Garments Bangladesh Co Ltd, in the presence of BEPZA executive chairman major general Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, BSP, ndc, psc.
During the ceremony, BEPZA executive chairman expressed appreciation to Safety Garments Bangladesh Co Ltd for selecting Mongla EPZ as their investment destination. He reiterated BEPZA’s commitment to providing a secure and supportive environment for investors and emphasised the importance of maintaining environmental sustainability in business operations, the BEPZA said in a release.
Senior officials from BEPZA, including member (Finance) A N M Foyzul Haque, executive director (Investment Promotion) Md Tanvir Hossain, and executive director (Admin) Md Tazim-Ur-Rahman, along with representatives from Safety Garments Bangladesh Co Ltd, attended the signing ceremony.
