Monthly UK production output fell by 1.8 per cent between July and August and is now 0.9 per cent below the figure in February 2020, which was the last month of ‘normal’ trading conditions prior to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The fall resulted from a decline in three of the four sectors—manufacturing; mining and quarrying; and electricity and gas.Production output in the manufacturing sector fell by 1.6 per cent and in electricity and gas by 0.6 per cent in August month on month, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

Manufacturing saw eight of its 13 sub-sectors negatively contributing to growth during August.
Production output for the three months to August 2022 fell by 1.5 per cent compared with the three months to May.
