A new textile policy can be expected to be finalised by the government in the next three months, according to a senior official. The draft for the policy will be finalised once consultations are done with the stakeholders. The new policy is expected to create 35 million additional jobs in India and achieve $300 billion in textile exports by 2024-25.

Response and output from foreign players who will participate in the upcoming Textile India 2017 conference will be taken into account while formulating the policy, said Anant Kumar Singh, textiles secretary, while addressing the media at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) event.

The Textile India Conclave and Exhibition will be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from June 30 to July 2. It will showcase a wide range of Indian textiles and handicrafts at more 1,000 stalls. The event will play host to over 2,500 international buyers, retailers, agents and designers and over 15,000 domestic buyers. (KD)
