A group of US retailing, e-commerce and logistics firms recently announced forming ‘The Package Coalition’ to work with policymakers and the public to highlight the importance of postal package delivery services to businesses and consumers. The entities include Amazon, Columbia Sportswear, Express Scripts, National Retail Federation, OSM Worldwide and QVC.

The US Postal Service (USPS) is the only daily delivery service that connects everyone of the 157 million US addresses. Its package delivery business last year contributed an additional $7 billion to its bottom line.

“We support policy solutions to preserve this channel of commerce for all Americans, especially those in remote and rural areas that do not have consistently affordable alternatives to the Postal Service,” the coalition said in a press release.

“The ability to affordably, reliably and conveniently receive medicine directly at their doorstep is essential for elderly and rural Americans,” said Gary Kline, vice president of government affairs at Express Scripts. (DS)
