Weekly earnings of employees rise in retail & wholesale trade

Employees of wholesale and retail trade in Canada are in happy spirit as a survey reveals increase in weekly earnings of them.
With 5.1 percent increase, weekly earnings of employees in wholesale trade reached $ 944.61 in October 2005, while in October 2004 the earnings were $ 903.43.
Earnings in retail trade segment have also recorded a rise of 3.9 percent. Earnings in October 2004 were $ 456.35 and in October 2005, it increased to $ 474.14.
In terms of number of employees, the two segments revealed mixed feelings of up and down.
According to figures, number of employees in wholesale trade was 737.7K in August 2005; in September 2005 the number increased to 739.1K and then in October 2005 it fell to 736.0K.
Thus, from August to September, the number increased by 0.2 percent and from September to October, it decreased by 0.4 percent.
In retail section, the figures show a continual increase in number of employees.
In August 2005, industry hired 1698.7K employees; then in September, with 0.2 percent increase, number shot up to 1702.8K and reached 1704.7K recording 0.1 percent increase in October.
