Taiwan's state-owned oil refiner CPC Corp. has said that the renovation work at its No.3 naphtha cracking plant in the southern port city of Kaohsiung will be completed by June 2012.
The plant will be equipped with the most advanced manufacturing processes and environment-friendly facilities, Chief Executive of CPC Corp.'s petrochemical division, Huang Teng-hsiang has said.
He said that the mass production at the renovated cracker is expected to begin in early 2013 and it will then be renamed as No. 6 naphtha cracking plant.
After renovation, the naptha cracking plant will have a capacity to produce 800,000 tons of ethylene, which will be over three times its earlier capacity. The increase in production will ensure an adequate local supply of the petrochemical substance used as raw input in polyester production, Mr. Huang said.
He added that post-renovation, the plant will be able to save energy up to 20 percent compared to its earlier utilization.
The CPC Corporation official dismissed concerns about shortfall of domestic ethylene production in view of the suspension of operations in phases, in three naphtha cracking plants at the Mailiao petrochemical complex belonging to the Formosa Plastics Group, for safety inspections.
